Not everyone is a fan of the new rule implemented at the 2023
US Open which allows coaching from the sidelines, and Australian player
John Millman voiced his opposition to the change.
In previous years, players were not allowed to receive coaching during matches. However, the ATP decided to allow this in Grand Slams beginning at the 2023 US Open, and Millman had strong words regarding the change.
Millman believes coaching would be a distraction
"Coaching from the sidelines adds zero to the product," said Millman on social media. "Even more distracting watching the coaching on TV. Players should always have been left to figure it out themselves once they entered the arena."
The former World No.33 has experienced a dip in form lately, receiving a wildcard entry to the 2023 Australian Open where he lost in the second round. Additionally, the 34-year old failed to qualify for the 2023 US Open, falling in the qualifying rounds.
