Casper Ruud was defeated by Francisco Cerundolo who is a top clay court player at
Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell but an alarming crisis has developed for the top ranked Norwegian who is usually at home on the surface.
Albeit winning the Estoril Open, he is 10-8 in 2023 and has only won two straight games in a tournament which diverts from the usual solid game of Ruud.
Despite that anomaly, early defeats to Cerundolo and also Jan-Lennard Struff in Monte-Carlo set off alarm bells as well as the 1,200 points that Ruud will be defending at
Roland Garros by reaching the final last season.
He is currently Number Four in the world after reaching top two last season but could be out of the top 10 in the world at the end of the clay court swing.
As per Punto de Break, here is the list of upcoming points that Ruud has to defend.
Points to defend for Casper Ruud on the 2023 clay court tour
- Barcelona: 90 points (lost 45 of them)
- Munich: 45 (cannot defend them due to the change in the calendar)
- Madrid: 10
- Rome: 360
- Geneva: 250
- Roland Garros: 1,200
