Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz continued his great run at
Wimbledon
as he cemented his place in the quarterfinals with another win.
The 20-year-old defeated Italy’s
Matteo Berrettini in four
sets with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3, on Monday.
This will be Alcaraz’s first-ever appearance in the
quarterfinal of Wimbledon.
The reigning world number was slow of the blocks as he was
clearly the second-best in the opening set. Berrettini took advantage of it and
in that process, won 78 percent of points on his first serve.
In the second set, Alcaraz returned to his very best and
secured it with a score of 6-3. In the process, he produced 13 winners, six
more than his opponent.
The third set was more of a replica of the second where the 2022
US Open proved far more dominant for his opponent. While doing so, he won 71
percent of service points.
The Spaniard continued his dominance in the fourth set as well where he emerged victorious with a score of 6-3. While doing that, he won 94 percent of points on the first serve.
Alcaraz will now face world number six Denmark's Holger Rune in the quarterfinal of the competition on Tuesday.
