Nicolas
Jarry had a commendable gesture after his defeat against
Carlos Alcaraz at
Wimbledon.
The Chilean
faced his first match on Centre Court, against none other than the world No. 1,
Carlos Alcaraz. This was their second encounter, with the previous one taking
place in the semifinals of the Rio Open 2023, which Alcaraz won and went on to
lift the Brazilian trophy.
Despite a
strong performance from the 25th seed, Alcaraz secured another victory,
although he dropped his first set of the tournament at Wimbledon 2023. Jarry
received great support from the crowd.
After
Alcaraz's 6-3, 6-7(8), 6-3, 7-5 victory, Jarry left the Centre Court but not
before stopping to sign autographs for several fans and giving away three
rackets to children in the crowd. This act was applauded by the entire stadium,
including Alcaraz, who was ready for the on-court interview.
Nevertheless,
Jarry can be proud of his achievements at Wimbledon, as he secured his first
two victories at the All England Club by defeating Marco Cecchinato and Jason
Kubler. He exits the tournament after putting up a great fight against the
world No. 1. Jarry is also set to achieve his highest ranking so far, currently
sitting at world No. 26 in the live rankings.
The Chilean
will take a break in the coming weeks, although he may appear at the ATP 250
Bastad Open in two weeks' time, for which he would need to request a wildcard
entry to participate in the tournament he won in 2019.
On the
other hand, the former US Open champion, Carlos Alcaraz, continues his journey
at SW19 with great confidence after overcoming a strong opponent. In the fourth
round, he will face a Grand Slam finalist, as Alexander Zverev or Matteo
Berrettini, both former top-5 players, will compete against each other.
Berrettini reached the Wimbledon final in 2021, where he lost to Novak Djokovic
in four sets.
