Wimbledon 2023 is now marching towards the business end
where players are putting their all to stay in the race for ultimate glory.
Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz, like many others, has also continued
his marry way in the tournament with another win on Saturday.
The current world number one registered his spot in the fourth
round of the third Grand Slam of the year after defeating Chile’s Nicolas Jarry
with a score of 6-3, 6-7, 6-3, 7-5 on Saturday.
In an extremely feisty affair, one incident caught the eye
of the fans sitting in the arena. During
the match, the world number 28 produced a strong serve which Alcaraz could not
respond properly.
The ball flew in the direction of the umpire Nico Helwerth
who showcased his ball-catching ability and received applause from the crowd.
The result will be a big boost for Alcaraz who has now
equalled his best-ever record while playing at Wimbledon.
The last time when the number one-seeded player reached the
round of 16 was in the 2022 edition where he suffered a defeat against Italy’s Jannik
Sinner with a score of 6-1, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3.
The 20-year-old, who is now set to face Italy’s Matteo
Berrettini in the round of 16 clash on Monday, defeated the French duo of Jeremy
Chardy (6-0, 6-2, 7-5) and Alexandre Muller (6-4, 7-6, 6-3) in the first and
second round of the competition before getting the better of Jarry.
