America’s
Christopher Eubanks has pledged to never the word ‘hate’
for grass courts after his recent success at
Wimbledon 2023.
The 27-year-old qualified for the quarterfinal of the third
Grand Slam of the year after defeating Greece’s
Stefanos Tsitsipas in a
five-set thriller with a score of 3-6, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 on Monday.
The result is an even more surprising one considering Eubanks
started the competition through the qualifying round.
Before the start of the mega-event, the Atlanta-born stated
his hate relationship with the grass court where his record was pretty average.
However, after his round of 16 success at Wimbledon, Eubanks
vowed never to repeat those words for the grass surface.
"I don't think I ever will, those words will never come
out of my mouth for the rest of my career," he said. "The grass and I
have had a very strenuous relationship over the years but right now I think
it's my best friend."
Talking about his feelings after the match, Eubanks stated that
he feels like living a ‘dream’.
"I feel like I'm living a dream right now, this is
absolutely insane,” he said. “The funny thing with tennis is you don't need to
play your best, you just need to play really well at certain times and I feel
like I did that really well today.
“I had some ups and downs which you can imagine being the
first time in the fourth round at a Slam but I came up clutch when I needed to
man and because of this atmosphere, you guys pushed me to be able to do some
incredible stuff.
“You guys came out in full force to support me today and I
honestly can't put it into words what it means. Thank you to every single one
of you for coming out and supporting me, this has been a dream come true."
