Holger Rune has broken new ground on Monday at 2023
Wimbledon seeing off Grigor Dimitrov 3-6, 7-6(6), 7-6(4), 6-3 to reach the Quarter-Finals for the first time.
Only making his second appearance at Wimbledon, he came from a set and a break down to seal victory in a superb three hour, 20 minute clash on Court One.
Rune's destructive power was on full show and his aggression proved the difference over the two tie-breaks that were played to give him the lead before the final set.
He struck 46 winners to 49 from Dimitrov in a high quality tie, which turned in the third set as he dictated the tie-break gaining the lead before sealing the decisive break in the fourth game of the sixth set as Dimitrov double faulted on break point down.
He becomes the second Danish man to advance to the last eight joining Kurt Nielsen three times in the 1950's and is the third time, he has reached a Quarter-Final at a Grand Slam at only the age of 20.
He reached this point at Roland Garros over the last two years. As of the time of writing, he will face either Carlos Alcaraz or Matteo Berrettini who are facing off on Centre Court.
"Today was a crazy match," Rune said. "Grigor is an incredible player and he pushed me to the limit. We both pushed each other. I think it was a great match and a tough match and thank you for the amazing support.
"I fight until the end always. That is what I focus on, especially when I am in a tough situation. I tell myself that there is Wimbledon once a year, so I am going to fight so I have a chance to win."
