Carlos Alcaraz was full of morale and confidence after beating Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals of the US Open. The player from Murcia played a very solid match and destroyed his opponent in three comfortable sets. Now he will face Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals, although his sights are already set on a possible final against Novak Djokovic.
In statements collected by Marca, the Spaniard confessed after the duel that he believed that Zverev fell apart in the second set physically and that he was clear that he wanted to win in three sets. He comments that the anticipated final against Djokovic is closer, although obviously both have complicated semis ahead, him against Medvedev and Nole against the revelation of the tournament, Ben Shelton;
KEYS TO THE MATCH.
"He came down a little bit in the second set. He had some physical problems. For me it was important to win in three sets."
BREAKS
"I've surprised myself, in previous matches I've struggled to make 'breaks'."
MEDVEDEV.
"I feel very comfortable playing on this court and in New York. I'm at my best level here. Last year was very tough, playing four and five sets in the last rounds. I feel very good physically. Mentally, strong. I'm ready to have a great battle against Medvedev."
EARLY END.
"The final with Djokovic is closer than it was at the beginning of the tournament. There is only one match left. It would be nice to play again but we both have a complicated semifinal."
STATISTICS.
It's a great record to be in four Grand Slam semifinals in a row. We try to give normality to these results. The players I face have to play very well to beat me".
SHELTON
"He's a very aggressive player, who has great strokes. A year ago he was playing in college, if I'm not mistaken, and a year later he gets into the semifinals of a Grand Slam and is going to play against one of the best in history. We will see how he does, but the truth is that the situations in which he is living for the first time are being handled very naturally, with great maturity. And the truth is that Djokovic is going to have a hard time, obviously".
