Carlos Alcaraz has fallen against all odds against Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals of the
US Open.
The Spaniard had destroyed the Russian in the two duels they had had so far in 2023, in Indian Wells and Wimbledon, but was surprised by the extraordinary game of his rival and ended up giving in. It will be Medvedev and not him who will face Novak Djokovic in Sunday's final.
After the match, a sad Carlitos recognized that he has to face this kind of matches in a different way if he wants to keep winning. He acknowledged, in statements published by
Puntodebreak, that he had not been able to find 'solutions' to the Russian's game and explained that he is not yet as mature as he should be to be able to win this kind of matches:
"I could not find solutions in the match. I thought I could find solutions when the match was not going in the right direction, but after this match I am going to change my way of thinking. I am not mature enough yet to handle this kind of match. I have to learn from this.
On how hard this defeat may end up being, he admitted that he does not know how hard it may end up being the totally unexpected defeat when all the experts pointed to another final against Djokovic:
"I don't know. It could be days or weeks. I don't know. I don't think I'm going to think about this very long. I have to learn from it, of course, because I want to get better. I think these kinds of games help you grow and become better in these kinds of situations. I have to talk with my team, with Juan Carlos, and see how I can be better. Days or weeks, but not much more."
Thus, Carlos Alcaraz leaves with bad feelings about an American tour in which at no time could develop the game that accompanied him at the beginning of the year to Wimbledon and that made him worthy of being favorite today against a Medvedev who was simply much better than him.
