Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz are likely to battle for the number one rank in Monte-Carlo as they both have no points to defend and will both attend.
Alcaraz not defending the Miami Open trophy from last year made Djokovic return to number one this week but they are likely to battle it out for the number one rank in Monte-Carlo. It's an event that both will likely attend and neither has any points to defend. Both lost quite early in the event last year so it should be exciting.
Djokovic holds a slight advantage by virtue of being 380 points clear of Alcaraz and he can retain the spot with a weaker result if Alcaraz drops out early. Perhaps we even see a match between them as they haven't played since Madrid last year and fans are eager to see this version of Alcaraz take on Djokovic.
It being on clay would make it even better due to the likelihood of longer rallies and more drop shots which Alcaraz loves to play.
