Carlos Alcaraz bounced back from a poor showing in Montreal last week, cruising back
Mackenzie McDonald in his opening round match at the Western & Southern Open on Tuesday evening.
The Spaniard scored an easy 6-3 6-2 win over his American opponent, breaking McDonald in the opening service game and consolidating with a second break to seal the first set.
After both players were tied at 2-2 in the second set, Alcaraz asserted his authority as he rallied off four consecutive games to clinch the match later an hour and five minutes. There was little McDonald could do to weather the Alcaraz storm, as the Miami champion improved to 16-3 at ATP Masters 1000 events this season.
Alcaraz will face the winner between Marin Cilic and Emil Ruusuvuori, both of whom will battle it out for a spot in the second round later on Tuesday night.
