Carlos Alcaraz started his
Miami Open title defence in really superb fashion beating Facundo Bagnis 6-0 6-2 in just over an hour of play.
Alcaraz could have probably won this match 6-0 6-0 if he wanted to but after a furious first set, he toned it down a bit. It was only a bit which is why the set went 6-2 but he still dropped his serve once which his coach won't be too happy about. Miami plays quite a bit faster than Indian Wells and a clay specialist like Bagnis really had no chance against Alcaraz.
You knew a few points in that this was going to be demolition and it truly was. Alcaraz lost only a handful of points in the opening set and none on his own serve. He had 3 winners but forced Bagnis into trying to match him hitting-wise and it ended in a disaster for the Argentine with 12 unforced errors.
The second set saw Alcaraz rush at times a bit as he really went for some crazy shots. He racked up quite a few errors (8) and struggled to hit his serve consistently but it didn't really matter that much. He still got it done 6-2. A really good practice match for the Spaniard ahead of his title defence.
