Carlos Alcaraz didn’t play on Thursday at Wimbledon due to the rainy weather.
The world No. 1 started his campaign at Wimbledon on Tuesday and secured a comfortable victory against Frenchman Jeremy Chardy. Although Alcaraz was scheduled to play his second-round match on Thursday, various factors led to a one-day delay for his match.
The main reason for the delay was the rain that fell on the grass courts of the All England Club, which caused a disruption in the event schedule and the players' participation. Only today did the first round conclude, with some players already advancing to the third round (such as Djokovic) and others still unable to finish their first-round matches. As a result, the tournament organizers had to make adjustments to the match schedule.
Fortunately, Alcaraz was able to complete his first-round match on Tuesday as he played on one of the two courts with a retractable roof. If the original schedule had been maintained, the 2022 US Open champion could have reached the third round without any of his potential opponents completing their first-round matches, which would have been a clear advantage for him.

Potential opponents for Alcaraz

In today's matches, the upper section of the draw, where Alcaraz is positioned, was determined. In the second round, he will face another Frenchman, Alexandre Muller, who caused an upset by defeating his compatriot Arthur Rinderknech in four sets. A potential third-round matchup for Alcaraz could be against Jason Kubler or the 25th seed Nicolas Jarry. The Australian defeated Ugo Humbert in the first round in a five-set battle, while the Chilean came from a set down and won three consecutive sets to secure the victory against Cecchinato.
Alcaraz's second-round match will take place on Centre Court against an opponent currently ranked world No. 84, but who will achieve his career-best ranking following his performance at Wimbledon, rising to No. 75.
