Carlos Alcaraz has passed over Felix Auger-Aliassime to reach his first final of the
Olympic Games. The young Spaniard spoke to Alex Corretja for Eurosport after his victory still on the Philippe Chatrier.
He acknowledged that perhaps having more time to rest after his doubles elimination with Rafael Nadal. could have helped him: "Today was a very complete match, I played at a very high level, very concentrated, I had more hours of recovery, I did everything with more calm and focused to do my best," said the Roland Garros champion.
Alcaraz also wanted to apologize to his opponent after his bad match considering he played two matches yesterday.
"Felix had a very hard day yesterday with the singles and mixed doubles, he finished very late, it may have influenced him, I'm left with my feelings, very positive, very happy, looking forward to playing my first final at the Olympic Games."
Going for Gold in Paris
Looking ahead to Sunday's final, he commented that he will not change the training dynamics and hopes to give the Spaniards the joy of the gold medal:
"I will try to do the things I have been doing, no more and no less, it is a final, it is a very important moment in my life and my career, for all Spaniards, I will try to think about it. The goal was to get the gold, I will try to get the gold. it is a very important moment for my career. We are going to go for it.
Laughing, when asked what he promised the Spaniards for Sunday, he commented as follows:
"Let them get ready for the show I am going to give. I thank all those who have come to support and the people at home who are very many Spaniards, I thank them for their support. I am going to give them what they want, which is the Gold".
