Carlos Alcaraz Australian Open 2021
Carlos Alcaraz continues to take the tennis world by storm, as the 18-year old booked his spot in his first career Grand Slam quarterfinal when he defeated Peter Gojowczyk at the 2021 US Open.
The Spaniard outlast Gojowczyk to escape with a 5-7 6-1 5-7 6-2 6-0 victory on Sunday night, completely dominating his German opponent in the final two sets.
Although Gojowczyk was plagued by double faults and unforced errors, committing 12 and 84 respectively, it was the teenager who maintained his poise as he kept balls in play. Furthermore, Alcaraz relied on his speed and court coverage to frustrate the German qualifier, who was unable to develop a rhythm after winning the third set.
After upsetting third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third round, Alcaraz looks like a man on a mission as he attempts to go even further than he ever has at a Grand Slam. The World No.55 plays the winner between Frances Tiafoe and Felix Auger-Aliassime, as both men battle it out for a quarterfinal berth.
