Got there in the end 😅 A very tricky encounter but top seed @carlosalcaraz gets past Kuhn 3-6 6-1 7-6 in a topsy-turvy match on the German clay! @hamburgopen
Carlos Alcaraz lost the opening set against Nicola Kuhn playing some underwhelming tennis but he battled back to take it in three 3-6 6-1 7-6(3).
Oh, it was not the best that Carlos ALcaraz can offer, but it was good enough, in the end, to win in three sets. Nicola Kuhn gave the German crowd a show as he was able to nearly win this match. There was some good moments from the German particularly in the opening set when he was able to take advantage of some erratic tennis by Alcaraz.
The Spaniard finally arrived to this match in the 2nd set when he jumped on Kuhn early taking a 3-0 lead. From there he kept applying the pressure and finished off the set with 6-1. The final set was a good one with both players playing some solid tennis overall.
Kuhn was the first player to get a break point but Alcaraz held on. The Spaniard then had 40-15 on Kuhn's serve later on but failed to use it. We ended up in a tiebreak where Alcaraz jumped out to an early lead and held it for the 7-3 finish. A poor performance overall but good enough to win which is what counts.
