Carlos Alcaraz stumbled in his first match in Astana against David Goffin and the Spaniard will take lessons from the defeat.
Alcaraz took part in the Astana Open which was the first singles event he played as the number one player in the world. It wasn't a very good match from Alcaraz as he was beaten by David Goffin in straight sets which was the first time he failed to win a set in a match. He played over 50 matches this year so as brilliant as that achievement was, it also highlighted how poorly he played in the match:
“He played better than me, really, really aggressive. I couldn’t handle that pressure that he was pushing on me and of
course, it’s something that I have to learn and take lessons from this
match.”
It's a match where Alcaraz struggled to find his rhytm:
“Coming back to competition is never easy. He (Goffin) played two matches here on this court. It’s not easy to
get used to; it’s really, really slow. It was really tough on me, for my
confidence. I tried to get used to this court so quickly, but I couldn’t and he was better than me in this match.”
Alcaraz will make back to Europe as he gets ready for the next part of the season.
