Iga Swiatek and
Ajla Tomljanovic played a very competitive match but unfortunately, Tomljanovic retired early in the second set.
Swiatek and Tomljanovic were always an interesting matchup on the court and they delivered a very good match. The Australian has had a very good year so far and continued to play well in Ostrava with Swiatek having a legendary year herself.
It was a good match where the Polish player took an early lead which was expected. Despite trailing 1-4, Tomljanovic did not give up and pressured Swiatek eventually found a breakthrough and making it 4-4. She even had a break chance to take the 5-4 lead but Iga held firm and it proved a crucial game for her.
After saving that, she started to play a bit better and applied heavy pressure on Tomljanovic at 6-5 getting the break and capturing the set 7-5. Tomljanovic battled hard in the opening game of the second set to take the break but gave it right back. Two more games were played with the Australian retiring at 2-2 in the second set.
The match was already close to two hours at that point so it's a shame it was cut short.
