Spain’s young tennis star Carlos Alcaraz has attended a bull-fighting event to overcome a disappointing US 2023 campaign.
The 20-year-old had was knocked out from the semifinal of
the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year — where he was defending his title —
after losing to the current world number three Russia’s Daniil Medvedev with a
score of 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
Alcaraz was spotted during the bull-fighting event on Monday
at the Plaza de Toros de La Condomina in his hometown of Murcia.
His presence was confirmed by the Fundación Toro Lidia
social media which represents a foundation that defends and promotes
bullfighting.
The defeat in New York would be hard to swallow for Alcaraz
as it did not only ended his chances of defending his title but also nearly
ended his hopes of becoming the world number one this year.
The young tennis sensation became the talk of the town after
defeating the current world number one Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in a five-set thrilling
final at Wimbledon earlier this year with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6,
6–4.
That victory’s joy was proved to be short-lived as he suffered
a defeat against America’s Tommy Paul in the quarterfinal of the National Bank
Canadian Open with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
Later, Alcaraz was second-best in the final of the Cincinnati
Open (Western & Southern Open) against Djokovic who came out on top in a
thrilling contest with a score of 5-7, 7-6, 7-6.
