Alexander Zverev overcame a very tricky opponent in his first match in Rotterdam 6-4 7-6(4) to secure a much-needed win after a bad outing in the Davis Cup.
Alexander Zverev predictably did not have a very good start to the year and his struggles continued recently indoors when he failed to lead his Germany past Switzerland. He defeated Wawrinka but lost the crucial tie against Huesler. The display in Rotterdam was pretty solid overall as he managed to defeat Kwon in two sets.
Zverev broke his opponent early which made things a lot easier as he was able to play with a lot of confidence moving forward. He didn't have any issues until the final game of the first set when he squandered a 40-15 lead to complicate matters and give Kwon break points. He was able to wiggle out of this and win the set 6-4.
The second set saw no break points for either player as both cruised on their serves. It was a typical indoor set where the serves did enough damage to keep the games simple. The tie-break was decided by one mini break as Zverev got it to win the set 7-4 in the tiebreak. A huge win for Zverev, a much-needed one.
