Alexander Zverev is out of the NOVENTI OPEN in Halle after losing to Ugo Humbert 6-7(4) 6-3 3-6.
The 3rd seed of the NOVENTI OPEN in Halle, Alexander Zverev followed the number one seed, Daniil Medvedev, in crashing out of the event. The German played a solid match but he was outmatched by Ugo Humbert who enjoys the condition in Halle. The Frenchman possesses a strong first serve and loves playing in indoor conditions which Halle Arena mimics quite well.
Both players played well initially winning well over 80 % of their first serves. Zverev hit 11 aces as well but Humbert was simply better. Humbert dropped only one point on his 2nd serve while Zverev dropped 3 and in a tightly contested 1st set tiebreak that proved crucial.
Zverev was able to come back strong in the 2nd set playing more solid overall and limiting his mistakes. The Frenchman allowed more chances to Zverev and the German was able to take them winning the set 6-3. The final set was another tightly contested one.
Humbert was once again able to hit his first serve at a very high rate (88%) and that proved crucial. The serve gave him a lot of free points and he was able to return rather well in the final set frustrating Zverev. He found a way to break the German and he never looked back serving out the set 6-3.
