Zverev promised a better effort in this round and he delivered on that promise as he took down a very solid O'Connell in two sets 7-5 6-4.
The German is slowly getting back his rhythm as he continues to play more and more tennis. Round one was a good win over Lehecka and now he added another good win over yet another solid player who was playing well right now. It started off well for both as neither had many issues winning points.
Zverev patiently waited for his chance and it came late in the set when the Australian simply started to miss more. Zverev hit some great winners as well and the first set went to him 7-5. The second set pretty much went rather similarly as Zverev patiently waited for his chance once more and he got it done.
At 4-4, he broke his opponent to take a 5-4 lead and finished it off 6-4. A beautiful performance from the former top 5 player as he had 11 aces and only one double fault. That allowed him to be aggressive as he hit 30 winners in this one to get it done. Welcome back Zverev.
