Alexander Zverev had a fabulous comeback win over Novak Djokovic at the Tokyo Olympic Games and it turned his whole season around.
The season for Zverev up until that point was nothing special with the German having several solid outings. He won Acapulco earlier in the year and the Madrid Masters but besides that, his play was rather inconsistent and without much confidence. That changed after the Tokyo Olympics where Zverev won the gold medal and his season ended up being one of the most successful ones in his career.
Speaking about that he said:
“I have gained a lot of confidence with what I have achieved this season, the greatest improvement I have made was mentally. I feel much more relaxed on the track and willing to show everyone what I am capable of – beating Djokovic in Tokyo and Turin has made me feel invincible.”
His goal for next season is quite obvious, the German wants to do the things he has not yet done in his career. About that he said:
"There are two things I haven’t achieved yet, win a Grand Slam and become world No 1. I hope all this is already happening in Australia.”
Whether he can truly do that at the Australian Open remains to be seen but many former players and current analysts have picked Zverev as the next player to most likely win a grand slam out of the the ones that never have before.
