Alexander Zverev is marching in Cincinnati with the German easily besting Guido Pella 6-2 6-3.
It took Alexander Zverev 7 tries to finally win his first match at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati but now he looks unstoppable. Guido Pella played fairly good tennis so far in the event but today he was overmatched from the start. Similarly to his 1st round match, Zverev was once again super on his serve.
He only dropped two points on his serve in the first set winning it 6-2. He took an early break and added another not long after that to close out the set relatively quickly. Pella struggled in rallies against Zverev who has a clear skill advantage.
A similar pattern was followed in the 2nd set as well albeit Pella did adapt a bit better to Zverev and his way of playing. He won more points in the 2nd set both on his serve and on return however it did not matter much. Zverev converted both of his break points and didn't allow a single one for Pella.
In the end, he closed out the set with 6-3 to move on. Zverev will play against either Schwartzman on Ruud in the next round with their match underway right now.
