Naomi Osaka has pledged to donate all won prize money at the Cincinnati Masters to Haiti relief efforts after an earthquake and the event sponsor will match it.
Just as the Western & Southern Open got properly underway the island country of Haiti was struck by another devastating earthquake. The last time the country was struck by an earthquake was in 2010 and now it happened again. Naomi Osaka has Haitian heritage with her father being a native of the country.
That prompted the Japanese player to pledge to donate all of her winning from this year's edition of the Cincinnati Masters. Her donation will be matched by the sponsor of the event the Western & Southern financial group. The news was shared on the official Twitter page of the event albeit no press release has been given as of now.
Osaka fans will want to see the Japanese player win the event but considering that all of that prize money would go to Haiti's earthquake relief efforts neutral fans might find a reason to cheer for her deep run as well.
