Alexander Zverev returned to winning ways at the Miami Open washing away the sour taste from an early exit last year 6-4 3-6 6-3.
The German did not play a bulletproof match from start to finish but he got the win against a very tricky opponent Coric. The Croatian is playing only his 2nd event back from a very long absence due to an injury but he is already showing a very high level. The first set was very closely contested as neither player found an early breakthrough.
Eventually, Zverev found some late break points and converted them for a 5-4 lead. He closed out the set with 6-4. The 2nd set did not go his way as Coric jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. The German kind of gave up on the set focusing more on finding his own rhythm. He did and that worked well for him in the final set.
The momentum swung early in the set as Zverev jumped out to an early 3-0 lead this time. The German for the most part kept his cool in the set cruising to a 6-3 finish against Coric who could not create enough pressure. The German served extremely well hitting a couple of timely aces and winning the majority of first service points with ease.
