Speaking about the new ATP ranking system due to the coronavirus pandemic, Alexander Zverev said in Acapulco that he can't understand how he is still ranked behind Roger Federer.
Alexander claimed his 14th ATP title in Acapulco and the biggest since 2018, adding 500 points to his tally and still trailing behind the Swiss. As we all know, Roger has played only a couple of matches since the last year's Australian Open, struggling with a knee injury and staying in the top-10 thanks to his 2019 points.
Recently, Roger lost his top-5 position to Stefanos Tsitsipas, and will drop out from the top-6 after Miami, passed by Alexander Zverev no matter how far the German will go in Florida.
Federer will not compete in Miami, losing half (500) of his points for the title won in 2019 and falling behind Zverev on the ATP ranking list that comes after Miami. Alexander has been ranked 7th since November, gaining no positions on the list and changing that in Miami.
The German has played well so far this season, hoping to grab many points in Florida and return into the top-5 for the first time since the last August with a deep run on clay this spring.
