The
Wimbledon complex as we know it now will be expanded by adding the Wimbledon Park Project set to cost around 100 million pounds.
Wimbledon is one of the most famous tennis events every year and each time the event attracts a large crowd from all around the world. That is prompting the All England Lawn Tennis Club to expand the read in order to create an even better experience. Having acquired the Wimbledon Park golf
course in late 2018, the All England Club is proposing to build a total
of 39 new grass courts, which includes an 8,000-seat ‘Parkland’ stadium
with a retractable roof.
The other 38 grass courts will facilitate
the qualifying rounds at Wimbledon, matching each of the other Grand
Slams which enables qualifying players to feel a bigger part of the
tournament. The
documents reveal that the cost of the work will be ‘more than £100
million’, with the planning application costing over £73,000.
The timeline of the works has the construction beginning in
2022 on the Wimbledon Park golf course before a remodelling of the
Wimbledon grounds in 2024. In 2026, the qualifying courts and venue will be complete and the new All England Club will then be open to the public. Two years later, qualifying will be held on site before the completion of the Parkland stadium in 2030.
