Nick Kyrgios was forced to abandon plans of playing this week after experiencing flu-like symptoms but his tests came back negative.
Nick Kyrgios was supposed to play this week in Australia yet the Australian opted not to after not feeling well for a few days. The decision was made public via. a statement posted by the
Australian Open Twitter Page in which Kyrgios explained how he has been feeling. He said:
"I'm really sorry that I've had to pull out from this Melbourne
Summer Set event. I have been feeling run down and unwell for 4 days. I
have had several Covid tests over the last few days which all came back
negative."
The good news for Kyrgios is that all his tests have come back negative which means he will be able to compete next week and he intends to do so. His statement further read:
"I don't feel 100% so I need to take this
week to be ready for Sydney next week. I was really looking forward to
experiencing the best fans in the world here at home! I can't wait to
get back out there and see you all."
Kyrgios shoed a lot of entusiasm leading up to these events explaining that he is ready to play again:
"I feel good. A friend of mine, Dimi, has been working me out in
the gym and I’ve had a few guys down from different parts of Australia
hit with me over the last couple of months. I’m happy, I look forward to the summer in Australia and fingers crossed it all goes smoothly for everyone involved."
