Tennis fans react angrily after seeing Germany’s Alexander Zverev winning the Hamburg Open after a penalty order was issued with assault allegations.
The 26-year-old defeated Serbia’s Laslo Djere in the final of the event in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-3.
The development will be a good one for Zverev, especially after the recent controversy with his ex girlfriend, Brenda Patea.
As per different media reports, Berlin’s public prosecutor's office applied for a penalty on the current world number 16 for an alleged domestic abuse offence.
Zverev publicly has denied any such thing by stating: “From my side, I completely reject the allegations. My lawyers will take care of the matter. I won’t say any more than that.”
Tennis fans on social media reacted after seeing the Hamburg-born winning the title after being accused of such serious offences.
It is pertinent to note here that the ATP earlier this year said there was ‘insufficient evidence’ of domestic abuse against Zverev and therefore, he did not face any penalty.
On the court, the victory — which was his 20th ATP title — will definitely be a big boost for Zverev after disappointing outings in the last two events.
In Wimbledon 2023, he was knocked out from the third round after suffering a defeat to Italy’s Matteo Berrettini with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 7-6.
Later in the Swedish Open, Zverev once again faltered at the quarterfinals stage after losing to Andrey Rublev with a score of 6-2, 6-3.
