The draw has paired up
Andrey Rublev and
Marton Fucsovics 3 times in 2021 with the Russian winning 2 of those and once advancing due to a walkover.
After losing for a 3rd time in a month to Rublev the Hungarian said to Rublev while walking off the court:
"I hope I don't play you anymore this year"
The quote became an instant tennis classic in the internet universe as it was captured on video. In it, you can hear Fucsovics saying the sentence clearly followed by a visible and audible smile by Rublev. The first match was played in the Rotterdam Final with Rublev winning in straight sets. The 2nd match was supposed to be played in Doha but Fucsovics pulled out before any point was played.
One week later in Dubai, they would however play and again it was Rublev who came out on top once more. It's safe to say that the Hungarian is clearly fed up with playing Rublev but apparently, the universe decided to get in on the fun and this happened.
What you can see above is the ATP Miami Open draw where two players found themselves in the same half. Andrey Rublev and Marton Fucsovics might play in the 3rd round if they both win their matches up until that point. So it seems that Fucsovics might have to play Rublev once again despite his lack of any enthusiasm for it.
You can also see the video where Fucsovics said his now-famous quote. It seems the Hungarian is taking all of this lightly and with a bit of fun so perhaps if they do end up playing each other we can perhaps see another brilliant quote from the Hungarian. Stay tuned for the rematch and don't go far as we will have all the coverage for you.
