The Russian derby at the
Monte-Carlo Masters went to
Andrey Rublev who cruised rather quickly past
Karen Khachanov keeping it in two sets 7-6(4) 6-2.
Khachanov has been playing really strong tennis all season long being one of the more consistent players on the tour. He played well in Monte-Carlo too but Andrey Rublev proved better. The first set was a really close one as neither player face a single break point in that part of the match.
Both Rublev and Khachanov cruised through their service games so we ended up in a tiebreak. It was a decent one however Rublev jumped out to a 4-0 and that was it. The younger Russian held on to the lead and finished it off 7-4. Rublev does possess the heavier game out of the two and his 13 winners were more than enough to seal the deal when it mattered the most.
Rublev kept his level high in the second set but Khachanov fell off a little bit. It's not so unusual for him because he's a very streaky player who is prone to sudden drops in level. He didn't serve as well and didn't play that cleanly from the baseline which was enough for Rublev to cruise to a 6-2 finish.
