Feliciano Lopez was the alternate player for Europe in the
Laver Cup and the Spanish veteran believes
Andrey Rublev is the clear MVP of the event.
Andrey Rublev played a very good Laver Cup scoring several points for Team Europe which proved very useful for Europe in winning against Team World. The victory was a decisive one so it's tough to say that Rublev's points were the crucial ones but for Lopez, he is clearly the MVP especially as the team's designated doubles specialist.
He said:
“Andrey, he was the MVP during this weekend."
Lopez noted Rublev not only as important on the court but also off the court as a very happy personality and jokester that kept spirits high. That was noted by teammate Stefanos Tsitsipas as well who said:
"Andrey, I honestly didn’t expect him to be so funny. He’s the funniest guy of the group. He hasn’t
stopped cracking jokes and just being entertaining."
Team Europe proved to have a very good chemistry as a team despite many players considered fierce rivals generally. Some of them grew up toghether on the Tour as well with relationships dating back over a decade which also helped.
