Nick Kyrgios last competed at the 2021 Laver Cup representing Team World but the Australians won't play in 2021 anymore.
Kyrgios has been outspoken about a lack of competitive fire for tennis for a few months hinting several times at walking away from the game. At the Laver Cup, he explained in more detail why that is noting that his mother is having health issues and that he wanted to be with his family. It's an understandable sentiment but there is more to that as Kyrgios also revealed that he needs treatment for a knee issue that has troubled him for a while as well.
He wrote:
"Hey guys, over the last couple of months, I haven't been near 100 per cent healthy," Kyrgios wrote on an Instagram story. I've been dealing with left knee patella tendinopathy, and continuing to play without fully treating it can lead to further pain and greater set backs."
He further wrote:
"I've chosen to fly back to Australia to reassess and am planning to get PRP (Platelet-rich plasma) treatment to settle down and rehab my knee. "I'm disappointed it has kept me from playing my best tennis and hopefully with everything going smoothly I will be back to 100 per cent by the Australian Open."
Kyrgios won't play until the 2022 Australian Open and tennis fans around to world hope to see him return to tennis and play more consistently. There are not many players more popular and more fun to watch than Kyrgiso when he truly cares about tennis.
