Andrey Rublev won his 12th career trophy at the Gijon Open by easily beating
Sebastian Korda in the final 6-2 6-3.
Rublev has been dominant all week in the Spanish city bulldozing his way past every opponent with ease. He generally does better in slower indoor conditions as it allows him to dictate tempo with his groundstrokes, forehand especially.
We saw all of that here as the Russian was able to overpower Korda from the baseline, the same as with most opponents this week. He showed a good level last week in Astana but allowed his temper to cause him the match against Tsitsipas.
He was much more composed this week as things simply went smooth. From the start, it was evident that Rublev only needed time to eventually find himself in a chance to break and once it came, he pounced clinically.
Two breaks of serve were enough in the first set for the 6-2 win with the second set being determined by one break of serve. A great performance to finish off a great week for the Russian.
