Andrey Rublev proved much better than a fatigued
Novak Djokovic to take down the Serbian 6-2 6-7(4) 6-0 in the final.
Rublev entered this match understanding that he had very little to lose playing in an almost vintage Davis Cup atmosphere. It was not a match only against Djokovic but also against all the fans. He said before the match he would try and boy he did. From the start of the match, it was evident Rublev had a goal of winning this match and Djokovic could not do much to stop it.
The Russian served well and he did have his forehand working really really well. The first set ended with Rublev winning it 6-2. The 2nd set was a proper battle as Djokovic jumped out to an early break but Rublev battled back immediately. From there both players tried to win the match but it was really tough for either to find a breakthrough.
Djokovic's fatigue started to show towards the end of the set as he played very intense matches all week long. It was a worry for the Serbian as he is not yet in peak shape and will take a few more weeks to there. His goal is the French Open and there is plenty of time for him. Despite the struggles, he was able to outsmart Rublev in the tiebreak as the Russian rushed a bit too much.
He could have played it far better and he rectified those mistakes in the final set. Djokovic looked very slow after a long break between sets and the Russian jumped out to an early lead. He added one break after that and finished off with a bagel against Djokovic who could not properly move anymore.
