A superb comeback in the final set propelled
Andrey Rublev towards his maiden Masters 1000 trophy as the Russian defeated
Holger Rune 5-7 6-2 7-5 in the
Monte-Carlo Masters final.
It was an interesting one and one that Rune will remember for a while. The Danish player played fine but he made things hard on himself more than once in this one. The first set saw Rune break Rublev first but the Russian broke back not long after that. Eventually, Rune was able to get it done in the end despite not having the best of sets in terms of serving.
It was a huge win for him all things considered but Rublev helped him out in the final few games. The second set was one where Rublev largely dominated taking it 6-2 overall. He served better and was amazing from the baseline beating the Dane in total winners (11 to 7). The final set is where Rune missed his huge chance.
Battling well early on, he was able to jump out to an early lead thanks to an early break and he was able to hold it initially. Rublev was finding more and more solutions and giving Rune problems with the Russian breaking back eventually and making it 4-4. The heavy pressure continued and ultimately resulted in a win for Rublev 7-5 as he kept his cool as opposed to Rune who made more and more mistakes.
