Andy Murray will play in the Nottingham Open final after beating Nuno Borges in straight sets 6-3 6-2 for his 9th win on grass this year.
The Brit admitted candidly this year that Wimbledon is the most important event for him as he believes himself capable of a deep run and at first many doubted that. Some argued that he can win a round or two but he's certainly bringing his best game to grass so far as he's 9-0 so far. All of those wins came on the Challenger Tour against players that are not considered the top of tennis but still, he's playing really well right now.
This match pretty much went as all of his previous ones went. The Brit didn't serve as well as he did in previous days but he still posted six aces without a single double fault. While the win was rather smooth, Borges did give Murray some trouble on his serve. He Brit had to save break points and he saved 4 of 5 he faced.
He was spectacular on return frustrating Borges on both the first and second serve taking 4 of 8 break points he had. It was a really solid performance for Murray who will now contest another final on grass. He's 9-0 so far this year on grass and that's impressive even if all of those wins came on the Challenger Tour.
He's set to play next week in Queen's as well but it's going to be tricky playing for a 3rd week in a row. It's probably not smart either but we'll see what happens. The final of Nottingham is tomorrow as Murray tries to go for his 3rd challenger trophy this year. He won Surbiton last week and Aix on clay a few weeks ago. Vintage Murray on grass folks!
