Andy Murray isn't sure whether he will play at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris after priorly using it as a potential farewell point previously after the doubles teams were initially confirmed.
Murray was mooted to be teaming with Joe Salisbury but he won't now after his partner was confirmed and it isn't certain whether Murray would make the cut with any other player. The former World No.1 teamed with Dan Evans at the French Open, but it is unclear whether that union would happen again in Paris.
He also admitted that with issues with his body over the past month after returning straight after ankle ligament damage, he is unclear whether he would even go to Paris to play just in the singles. It leaves the door slightly ajar though for Murray to finish his career potentially at Wimbledon. He is yet to give a full date of when he will leave the sport but it is presumed to happen in the next few months.
One of the stops on his farewell tour will be Wimbledon where he is also mooted to be teaming with Jamie Murray, his older brother. A never before seen union at a Grand Slam, they have played together at Davis Cup. But it is perhaps the perfect farewell at a tournament that he loves. So he now sits in Olympic Games limbo with a decision to make.
'I need to see what happens with the Olympics,' he said to reporters after defeating Marcos Giron on Tuesday.
'I'm not 100 per cent sure what the situation is there with the doubles yet and whether or not I will play if I just get in the singles. I don't know.
'My body didn't feel great playing on the clay in the last month or so. I had quite a few issues with my back, so I don't know if I would go just for singles. I need to wait a little bit and see on that (on teaming with Dan Evans).
On his current predicament, he lamented his lack of form and not being able to break serve. He lost to Marcos Giron yesterday at the Stuttgart Open 6-4, 6-4. 'I've been struggling with that in the past few events,' Murray said. 'I haven't broken serve for a few matches and that is usually a strength of mine.
'I was just not able to get any breaks. On a surface like this, which is pretty quick here, you need to be clinical when the chances come. He was and I wasn't.'
