Andy Murray recently arrived in Italy where he is set to play at the Biella challenger and speaking to Sky Sports Italia he underlined his gratitude for the opportunity.
The former world number one lastly competed in Cologne in October so this will be a good opportunity for him to get back to playing shape. A positive coronavirus test barred him from entry into Australia so he was grateful to get any chance to play. He said:
"Physically I feel pretty good. I'm very grateful they gave me the opportunity to play in this tournament and compete. The reason I came here was to play matches. I believe I still have some really good tennis in me. I know I can compete at the highest level and hopefully I can show that this week."
The event is a strong one as Murray will face Marterer in the first round who is a former world number 45. The likes of Safwat, Moroni, Rola, Horansky and Giustino are also taking part in this event and all of them have experience at the highest level of the ATP tour. It won't be easy but as Murray noted himself he is here to compete and get back into match shape. Tough matches and strong opponents is the best he can hope for.
He will stay for two weeks in Italy competing at Biella 1 and Biella 2 before returning to the ATP Tour in Montpellier. You can follow how Andy does on our live scores page.
