Former world number one Andy Murray has shared a picture of his back cyst, forcing him to withdraw from competitions. The 37-year-old is often regarded as the greatest British player in the history of men’s tennis in the Open era, at least in the singles category.

Despite his on-court achievements, Murray has struggled with fitness concerns throughout his career. Because of this, he announced his retirement from professional tennis after the Australian Open in 2018. The Glasgow-born star returned to the court soon after and has continued to play at the highest level.

Murray announced earlier this year that he is considering retiring from the sport once again after consistent fitness struggles. Ever since he made that announcement, his fans have been waiting to see him play at Wimbledon, where he has a fabulous record, but their wish could not have been fulfilled.

Murray suffered a back injury during the Queen’s ATP Championship, which forced him to withdraw from the singles category event at Wimbledon. The actual reason for Murray’s withdrawal was that he developed a cyst after getting his back operated on. Recently, the former world number one shared a picture of his spinal cyst in a post on his official account on the social media platform with the caption: “Back healing nicely.”

The back injury was not the first one Murray had this season, as earlier, he also suffered an ankle injury, which kept him out of action for two months. The former world number one eventually participated in the doubles category at Wimbledon with his brother Jamie Murray. Their pair suffered a first-round defeat to Australia’s John Peers and Rinky Hijikata in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-4. Murray was also due to participate in the mixed doubles event with Britain’s Emma Raducanu, but the youngster was forced to withdraw from the event because of a wrist injury.
