Andy Murray produced a sensational effort to take down Matteo Berrettini in an epic 5-set match 6-3 6-3 4-6 6-7(7) 7-6(7) booking the second round.
Murray was very optimistic leading up to the Australian Open and it seems like it was anything but wishful thinking. He promised that he's better than last year and this is certainly much better than last year. He was controlling the match really well in the first two sets with very smart play. Berrettini had chances on Murray's serve but he didn't use them.
Murray was much more focused and his effort yielded results as he took the two first sets 6-3 both times. The 3rd set is where he ran into some problems. This time around Berrettini was the one that used his chance while Murray failed to do so. Berrettini took it 6-4 and then we saw a very close 4th set that finished in a close tiebreak 9-7 for Berrettini.
The final set was another good one with both players dominating on serve. Murray faced a match point late in the set and got very lucky when Berrettini sent an easy ball into the net. He clawed his way into the tiebreak and then outplayed Berrettini once more. It was a great effort from the Brit who had 40 winners and only 34 unforced errors.
