Fritz starts off Australian Open with a win

Taylor Fritz faced a very inspired Nikoloz Basilashvili but he was able to endure his attacks and secure a spot in the next round following 4 sets of play.

Basilashvili has not played good tennis in a very long time but this was a hugely inspiring showing from him. He struck the ball very well but it was still not enough to create too much trouble for a very solid Fritz. The American was lauded by native player Millman as a huge threat because the conditions are perfect for him and he showed it.

Hitting 32 aces and losing only about 10 points on serve is something that he won't need in every match but it will be really tricky to beat him if he gets it. He did face four break points and save two of them but also did just enough on return so it wouldn't matter. 41 winners were also on his side as he cruised to a 6-4 6-2 4-6 7-5.
