Iga Swiatek's dominant run last year raised the expectations even further for her and it's something she's had to come to terms albeit it wasn't easy.
Swiatek has been in spectacular form in 2022 but there have been times when she looked very vulnerable on the court. A very authentic player, she's not afraid to discuss anything from mental health to her own fears and motivation and recently she opened up about expectations and how she deals with them:
"For sure, I feel like people are really focused on the numbers and on the statistics. I feel like they're looking at those matches, like, not seeing that we are still people, and we have to really fight for it, you know? They're just like, I don't know, 'you have more skills and you're using them, so you're going to win'. They're just looking at numbers."
It's fairly normal for a player as good as Swiatek but sometimes she feels like people treat more like a robot than a player:
"I don't know. I know that I also put a lot of expectations on myself, but I'm working on that. It just feels like sometimes, they're not treating you still as a human, but more like a robot who has to win. Maybe it will be a little bit easier if there were less people that are kind of judging."
