Andy Murray and Nikoloz Basilashvili had a very late start to their Sydney match and ultimately it was Murray who won 6-7(4) 7-6(3) 6-3.
Murray and Basilashvili finished their match after midnight local time and it was a brilliant match. Both tennis player played fairly well and never gave up which is why we saw two very close tiebreaks in the first two sets. Basilahvili retired from his most recent match and it was good seeing him compete at a high level once again without any medical problems.
The match was very competitive from the early going as both players were forced to save early break points. Murray went up 3-1 and held that lead until 5-3 when he was supposed to serve it out. He did not and he allowed Basilashvili a chance to come back which he did. In the tiebreak, it was the Georgian who triumphed with 7-4.
The 2nd set was another interesting one and it was eerily similar to the first set. Murray was once again up a break for the majority of it and once again lost his serve when he served for the set at 5-3. This time around he proved more composed as he won the tiebreak 7-3 instead of Basilashvili. The injected confidence propelled Murray to a higher level and he was able to come out on top.
Murray took an early 3-0 lead and after that, it was mostly a straightforward run towards the finish line. The match was a brilliant one that lasted over three hours. It started late in one day and finished in the early hours of the next.
