Andy Murray has withdrawn from the Olympic Games Singles draw hours before playing Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Andy Murray started his Olympic Games campaign yesterday in the doubles draw with Joe Salisbury when they easily defeated Herbert and Mahut in straight sets. It was an impressive victory over the number two seeds from the British duo but it came with a price. Only an hour before his match against Felix Auger-Aliassime Andy Murray withdrew from the match.
Murray released a statement about an hour after his withdrawal saying he was advised against playing in both singles and doubles. It's not yet clear whether Murray has a lingering injury or it's precautionary but Murray has spoken about his body letting him down lately. He said:
"I am really disappointed at having to withdraw but the medical staff have advised me against playing in both events, so I have made the decision to withdraw from the singles and focus on playing doubles with Joe."
Another setback for Murray whose had great expectations of the Olympics. Perhaps he will go far with Salisbury in the doubles draw. They played an amazing 1st round match.
