Top seed Ashleigh Barty out of Olympics, beaten by Sorribes Tormo in straight sets

Ashleigh Barty did not enjoy her first day playing in Tokyo as she got beaten by Sorribes Tormo of Spain 6-3 6-4.

The first major upset of the Olympics came today with Sara Sorribes Tormo beating Ashleigh Barty in straight sets. It was a great display from the Spanish player who was able to battle past a very shaky Barty. The Australian did not have it from the get-go and was all over the place from the start.

At times brilliance showed but the Australian never could find any sort of proper rhythm against Sorribes Tormo who plays a very odd style of tennis that tends to throw opponents of guards. Barty found herself down 1-4 early and while she was able to pull one break back it was not enough.

Sorribes Tormo won the opening set with 6-4 which gave her confidence to continue playing great going forward. She broke Barty in the first game of the 2nd set but the Australian came right back. At 3-3 however, Baryt lost her serve once again to make it 3-5.

Sorribes Tormo got her first match points on Barty's serve and she was able to close it out. A great win for Sorribes Tormo over Barty who was fairly bad today. She got broke four times in 9 service games which is unacceptable for the world number one.
