Former World No.1
Andy Roddick claims that some of the top players in the world will have an improved chance of claiming the
Australian Open, should
Novak Djokovic refuse to participate in the tournament.
The Serbian has refused to disclose his vaccination status, and with unvaccinated players banned from playing in Melbourne, his participation is in major doubt.
“We don’t know what’s going to happen with Australia," admitted Roddick. "Nobody knows except Novak what he’s going to do and if he’s going to play the game the way it has to be played to participate in Australia."
The 2003 US Open champion believes that if the World No.1 should skip the event, then this could be the ideal opportunity that
Rafael Nadal to increase his Grand Slam tally.
“If he doesn’t, opportunity’s knocking for Medvedev, Zverev, Rafa’s going to be foaming at the mouth to get there and get to that 21st Slam so these other guys, they have to play their tournament either way,” said Roddick.
