Former world number one America’s
Andy Roddick has once
again praised Serbia’s legendary tennis star
Novak Djokovic for reaching the
final of
Wimbledon 2024. The third Grand Slam is approaching its conclusion
as the final lineup in both men’s and women’s categories has been decided.
In the men’s singles category, world number two Djokovic will
face the defending champion Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the final on Sunday. The
37-year-old, who is often regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s
tennis in the Open era, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles, cemented his
spot in the final after beating Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in the last-four clash in
straight sets with a score of 6-4, 7-6, 6-2.
Former world number one Roddick, in a post on his official
account on the social media platform X — previously known as Twitter — once again
praised Djokovic’s class after cementing his spot in yet another final. The one-time
Grand Slam winner stated that he was in awe of Djokovic’s greatness as a player,
especially after going all the way to the final of a Grand Slam just weeks
after going through a knee surgery.
“Novak is in the Wimbledon final weeks after having a knee
operation. I have a guy on my fantasy
baseball team who fouled a ball off his leg 6 weeks ago and progressed to
playing a game of catch yesterday ……. Great is great. I didn’t see it
as a possibility. Bet against the all time greats at your own peril. Props,” he
wrote.
Djokovic recently suffered a knee injury during the French
Open. That injury forced him to withdraw just before the start of the
quarterfinal against Norway’s Casper Ruud, which eventually cost him the number one spot in the ATP rankings. After that injury, the Belgrade-born star underwent surgery, which raised doubts about his participation in mega-events such as Wimbledon and the Paris Olympics.
