Ashleigh Barty put forward another great performance to take down Angelique Kerber at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati 6-2 7-5.
Top seed and world number one Ashleigh Barty keeps on winning in North America. The Australian played another great match to defeat Angelique Kerber and move on to the Cincinnati final. The start of the match was great by Barty as the Aussie was completely focused.
She was composed and did not rush in points preventing herself from going out of rhythm. She applied pressure on Kerber's 2nd serve which created opportunities. She would go on a 4-0 run to close out the first set with 6-2. Barty dropped only 6 points on her serve and winning 2/4 break points.
The 2nd set continued how the first set ended with Barty on top. She took a quick 2-0 lead but suddenly found herself on the receiving end of a Kerber surge. The German won 3 games in a row to take a 3-2 lead serving for 4-2. It was part of the match where Kerber dominated.
Barty was able to pull back the break avoiding disaster in the process as well as fending off another break point for Keber in the next game. After patiently waiting for the German to revert back to normal Barty used her chance at 6-5 to close out the match with 7-5 in the 2nd set.
